Autumn creations

The nights are drawing in and Autumn begins with many festivals including Halloween, Bonfire Night and eventually Christmas….and so far, the creative juices have been over flowing in my mind!!

Halloween

We crafty creative beings get our thinking hats on around this time of year,  trying to decide what are we going to do, what can we create for those all important gifts.

For me, I’m starting to get my wool and crochet hooks together to create gifts for friends and family.  Not only for Christmas, but also for my favourite festival of the year, Halloween.

This lovely little pumpkin pattern came with my latest purchase of Toft’s mini dinosaur book (oooo I had fun with that book, will have to leave that for another blog though).   So, of course, I had to crochet this tini pumpkin….but I gave it a little twist by making it a bit more Halloweeny…haha!

And of course it wouldn’t be Halloween without some carved pumpkins….now would it!

My niece and nephew helped me draw the faces, then I carved.  Love these gruesome pumpkins, especially love the one eating the little pumpkin….very gory I know, but so effective!

They eventually took them home to display outside their own house…..so… I thought why not make one especially for myself.

Only problem was I only had a baby white pumpkin left.  And so, there could be only one character that could be made out of a white pumpkin….

but….

Jack Skeleton from Nighmare before Christmas of course! … so….

Tah dah!

He looked great with lights inside too.

Really loved carving all the pumpkins, will definitely have to do some more next year.

Did you carve any pumpkins this year?   If you did what character did you choose?  Would love to see some pics.

Christmas gifts

But not all my makes at the moment are scary!

I’ve been using a lovely pattern from “Crocheted Sea Creatures” by Vanessa Mooncie and creating a starfish from the book, for my friends little girl, for her Christmas pressie.

Really loving the wool I found in my enormous yarn stash too.   It’s from the Scheepies ‘Wanderlust’ range.

This colour was called Lake Louise….great colours, sooooo yummy greens and blues into grey, but also had a light pink running into deeper pink, (decided to use that colour way for the underside of the starfish).

Anyhoo, as the new ball starts off pink had to get the underside pattern of the starfish going before it changed to the darker colours.

Then I could finish the top section with the remaining darker colours.

Thought it might look a bit too odd if I went straight in with a lighter edge!!

I finally finished the starfish, inbetween making more stock for my up and coming Christmas fair in December, but I’m really chuffed with the end result, the colours worked out really well.

Now I need to start the next projects…..
